So, you have decided to finally take the plunge and pursue your passions of real estate. As a brand-new agent in the NYC real estate market, you are probably feeling a whole host of emotions, from excited and invigorated to anxious, and trepidatious. New agents often approach me, wanting to know if they should even be entering the business, asking, “Should I be afraid? Should I maybe, do something else instead?” Well, I’m here to let you know that in addition to the plethora of opportunities that come with being a new agent, there are many other reasons why being a new agent can yield many positive benefits. And who knows? This could just turn out to be the best thing you ever did.

Read on to learn 5 reasons why being a new agent is without a doubt, a good thing.

1) Enthusiasm

Starting a new chapter in your life is always stimulating and even thrilling. Unlike agents that have been in the biz for many years, as a newbie you will have natural enthusiasm and zest for real estate that older agents usually do not have anymore. Take advantage of this! And let it move and inspire you to take this leap forward. Learning new skills and immersing yourself in a new field is incredibly exciting and energizing. You will never be a new agent again, so make sure you make the most of this time now. Your rookie enthusiasm may just be the thing to give you a major leg up on your competition.

2) Beginner’s Luck

You may be thinking, beginner’s luck is a real thing? Trust me, the universe will always let you know when you’re on the right track. As a new agent, you will experience moments of beginner’s luck to reassure you that you made the right choice to be in real estate and that you are headed in the right direction. Look out for these special moments of beginner’s luck and celebrate these wins!

3) No Fear

One of the best things about being a new agent is that you can embrace the brazen fearlessness that comes with starting something new. After all, you don’t have anything to lose, because you have never lost it before! So, why have any fear?  And, yes, you will face rejection, but as a new agent, you will not feel jaded yet, so you can easily get back in there and continue going.

4) Market Share

There should always be new agents in every market. Sure, the big dogs will be there too who have already staked their large amounts of market share, but what about the other parts? They’re yours for the taking, my friend! So, don’t be afraid to claim yours.

5) Drag Suit

This time for you as a new agent is something I like to refer to as “drag suit” time. A drag suit is material that is worn over swimming trunks to add resistance and help new swimmers build strength and stamina. Yes, they can make it quite difficult to swim. But once they come off? It enables swimmers to feel so weightless and free, as if they could fly through the water.  Same goes for you as you embark on your new career in real estate. If you can tough it out during drag suit time, learn the ropes, and push yourself as much as you can now, just imagine how far you will be able to go and how much more success you can attain, when you are more experienced, and things get easier. You will fly, too!

Remember, being new in any field, especially in NY real estate is definitely a good thing. So, get out there and get it!
